Celtic are reportedly targeting Fausto Vera as an alternative to Vinicius Souza.
Ange Postecoglou wants to add midfield steel to his squad ahead of their Champions League group stage campaign. Lommel star Souza was top of the list in that department, but now looks set to join La Liga outfit Espanol after being chased by a host of clubs across Europe. And now Celtic could return to Argentina to fill the void after being linked with Fausto Vera of Argentinos Juniors. Having snapped up countryman Alexandro Bernabei to provide competition for Greg Taylor at left back. The 21-year old penned a five-year deal with the Premiership champions after a £3.75million fee was agreed with previous club Lanus.
Latin Tribun report that Vera is now on their radar as well. However, they face strong competition from Belgium, with Genk having apparently submitted a €6million bid for the 22-year-old. Vera has made 23 appearances for Argentina this year, scoring four goals and setting up another three. The Argentina Under 23 international is out of contract in December, which could help facilitate a cut price deal. However, there is an option to extend that by a further 12 months that lies with the Primera Division club, who may feel they will get more money for their man in January should they extend his deal.
Meanwhile, Celtic have also been sent a timely reminder of Mohammad Abu Fani’s availability. The player’s agent Dudu Dahan has done plenty of business with the club previously, brokering Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed’s transfers to Glasgow as well as Liel Abada’ switch last summer.
He shared a video of Abu Fani’s best moments for Maccabi Haifa. Fani is another potential midfield target as Dahan looks to keep him on the Hoops’ radar in the wake of Vinicius’s imminent move to Spain.
