'Father Time catches up' Rangers star Steven Davis blasted by Iain Dowie over Northern Ireland error

Steven Davis was blasted by Iain Dowie after giving away a penalty in Northern Ireland's defeat to Kosovo in the Nations League.

The Rangers veteran captained his country during the clash in Pristina and was at fault early on as he caught Milot Rashica with a late challenge inside the penalty area.

Davis - who has just penned a one-year extension with Rangers - was visibly frustrated with his error as the hosts fired home to set them on their way to a 3-2 win last night.

The 37-year-old has been an instrumental figure for his country over the years but he was unable to escape a blasting from Dowie who claimed 'Father Time catches up' while working on the co-commentary for Premier Sports.

He said: "I don't know what Steve Davis is doing, he can tell now. He thinks he can get there.

"Not being funny, he's been immense for Northern Ireland but old Father Time catches up.

"And Rashica, very sharp. He buys the penalty, I've got to say, he knows it's coming and it's the worst possible start for Northern Ireland."

The result leaves Northern Ireland with just one point from their opening three games.

They lost the opener 1-0 at home to Greece before a 0-0 draw in Cyprus.

Davis and Co are back in action on Sunday against Cyprus on home soil as they bid to get a first win in League C Group 2.
