Father's Day is almost upon us, giving us the chance to shower our dads with love, affection, and maybe also gifts.
Falling annually on the third Sunday of the month, it will be celebrated on June 18 in 2023, giving sons and daughters just over a week to get ready. Find out more about the tradition and why it is celebrated here.
It is an event that has been enjoyed since 1908 and follows on from the March date of Mother’s Day.
It is also an opportunity to celebrate grandads, and will see shops and markets selling cards as well as gifts.
Here is our guide to what to buy for your dad or grandad’s special day.
Fashion
Axel Arigato’s A-Dice Lo Sneaker (£215) is a good choice of footwear for anyone looking to get their old man on trend, while this Norse Projects Twill Sports Cap (£80) would be the perfect addition to any wardrobe. For a more lucrative investment, the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph (£5,450) may one day be passed back down to you!
For the lowdown on all of these products and more, ES Best writer Abha Shah’s guide has you covered with her guide to potential gifts for your dad in the fashion world.
Tech
The 11th Gen Kindle (£94.99) is a good idea for a dad who likes to read, while Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is one of the hottest new games on PlayStation 5 — and can be bought with the console in a bundle (£529). For a more traditional DIY-type dad, the Bosch Universal Impact 700 Hammer Drill Driver (£69.99) is a good investment, too.
For a full range of gadgets and prices, see the ES Best review here.
Grooming
A highly rated shaver is one from the Philips OneBlade Original range, with prices from £32.99, and could be used in tandem with Patricks FS1 Volcanic Sand and Crushed Diamond face scrub (£58) or even Le Labo Santal 33 Shower Gel 237ml (£39).

Hampers
The best that money can buy in hamper terms are on sale, ranging from the £65 M&S Spanish Food & Wine Pairing Gift to the £150 Fortnums The Father’s Day Feast Hamper.
Here at ES Best we know the one thing that he’s guaranteed to love: a great hamper - writes Abha Shah in the complete guide to hampers for Father’s Day.
Drink
For celebrating good times (or commiserating bad times), look no further than the Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2015 x Paola Paronetto, although at £171 a bottle it is one to drink responsibly in all meanings of the phrase. For a budget option, you could do worse than the Belgrove Hazelnut Rum, which is £30 at Waitrose, or the vegan Quarter Light GIN, for £24.99 from Amazon.
A full listing of drink options is here.
And for grandads?
He might have been served well by Werther’s Originals, but your grandfather might enjoy something original this year.
The Givenchy Gentleman Eau de Toilette (£85) is a classy option available at John Lewis, while there is also the Jaques of London Backgammon Set (£39.99) which comes wrapped and ready to gift. For a retro design, see also the Roberts iStream 3L DAB+/FM Internet Smart Radio.(£179).
