We are standing by for the first court appearance from the suspected Georgia school shooter. The 14-year-old will appear in person, along with his father, who is also charged in the case. The hearing is scheduled to take place at the Barrow County Courthouse at 8:30 a.m. local time. Colt Gray, the teenager, is facing four counts of felony murder and has been held at the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center.
In a recent development, it has been confirmed that Colt Gray will make his first appearance in person, contrary to the previous announcement of a virtual appearance. Additionally, his father, Colin Gray, will be arraigned at 9:30 a.m. Eastern local time, just an hour after his son's hearing, in the same courthouse and courtroom.
Colin Gray, aged 54, has been arrested and charged with eight counts of cruelty to children in the second degree, two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the second degree, and four counts of involuntary manslaughter. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations stated that these charges are related to Mr. Gray knowingly allowing his son to possess a weapon.
Authorities decided to charge the suspect's father based on evidence that emerged over the years. The family had been on law enforcement's radar since July of 2022 when they were evicted from their home, and three guns, including an AR-15 rifle, were collected by Sheriff's deputies for safekeeping. These weapons were later returned to the family in May of the following year.
Deputies had previously interviewed both Colt and Colin Gray after online threats were flagged by the FBI, but the son denied any involvement. In December, Colin Gray purchased the gun allegedly used in the shooting as a Christmas present for his son. The arrest of the father was made when probable cause was established.
