Fatal crash on Scottish motorway triggers police appeal

POLICE are appealing for information after a fatal crash on the M74.

The one-car incident happened around 5am on Friday, July 10 on the northbound carriageway.

The car, a silver Mazda 2, crashed approximately four miles from junction 13 near Abington, South Lanarkshire.

Emergency services attended the scene, however a 24-year-old man was pronounced dead.

The road was closed to allow enquiries to be carried out and was reopened around 11am on Friday, 10 July.

Sergeant Ross Allison said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died.

“We are carrying out a number of enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this crash and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened to contact police.

“In addition, anyone with dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 0537 of 10 July, 2026.

The man's next of kin have been informed.
