Fastorslow Injury: Out For The Season With Soft-Tissue Setback

The Martin Brassil yard has reported a Fastorslow injury that will unfortunately rule their star staying chaser out for the rest of the season – with potential King George VI Chase plans now shelved.

Fastorslow Injury With Soft-Tissue Setback and Will Miss The Rest Of The Season

Horse racing fans last saw Fastorslow running an excellent fourth in the John Durkan Memorial Chase and with that run under his belt there was an exciting season ahead for the Martin Brassil’s 8 year-old.

However, the news coming out of the County Kildare yard is that Fastorslow has suffered a setback at home – with a soft-tissue injury and will rule him out for the season.

Fastorslow also held an entry in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown on December 28th and was in the top half of the market for the Cheltenham Gold Cup next March with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK –  a race he unseated in last season when still in with a chance.

The good news is that the Fastorslow injury isn’t expected to be career-threatening, and connections expect him to make a full recovering for the 2025-26 season.

His absence will pave the way for Irish staying heavyweights Fact To File and Galopin Des Champs to battle it out in the top 3m+ chases this season.

During his career Fastorslow has famously lowered the colours of the two-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Galopin Des Champs three times. Twice in the Punchestown Gold Cup and in the 2023 John Durkan Chase.

Fastorslow Was Expected To Be Supplemented For The King George VI Chase

The Fastorslow injury has also put a possible tilt at the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day on the backburner.

The horse hadn’t held an entry, but horses can still be supplemented for the race at a cost of around £5,000.

Top Irish trainer Willie Mullins took all his runners out of the big Christmas race – but there is still time for any runners to be supplemented. There are rumours that his John Durkin Chase winner Fact To File might take his chance (he wasn’t one of the original Willie Mullins King George entries).

Fastorslow Career In Numbers

  • Runs: 17
  • Wins: 5
  • Chase Wins: 4
  • Career Winnings: £518,829
