A fast food customer accidentally paid £666.50 for burger and chips, which should've cost just £6.50
Toby Wilson was left out of pocket as he paid for a veggie burger and chips.
The 35-year-old from Manchester didn't know he'd spent the money when he visited Efe's Kebab Kitchen after a night out in York.
He failed to spot that two sixes had been added to the bill, and he only realised when he checked his bank balance several days later, and saw his resources had depleted.
After approaching business owner Ahmed Abdullah about the card payment, he was asked to get a refund through his bank.
But the pair remained in a stalemate situation over possible repayment of his late-night snack.
He reckons there has been no fraudulent activity, but it had caused him weeks of stress.
Toby said: "It's very frustrating. Admittedly, at the start, it was a bit of a funny story. I thought it would be quickly sorted out and the banks would go, 'Yep, it's an error.'
"But the bank is very slow at doing things. They said, 'have you got a receipt?
"The human aspect of it is I don't. No one has a receipt for things like that.
"I have a mortgage and bills to pay. It is just very worrying. The point is the money is mine, and it's a significant amount."
Ahmed Abdullah wanted Toby to talk to his bank for safety reasons, He said: "I would like them to deal with the bank - it's safer for them and me, and this is the legal way."
Toby had travelled to the city before Christmas and had bought the meal at about 11pm, and hadn't been drinking.
He asked a friend in the city to visit the food outlet and ask if they could refund him the extra £660.
But after the pair exchanged texts, Toby claieds Mr Abdullah told him to speak to his bank, prompting the stalemate.
Toby understood the firm had procedures in place as he had worked in hospitality, but needed the company to admit it had happened.
He was astonished he could have spent so much money on a simple meal that would have cost a few pounds.
Mr Abdullah spoke to his card machine company to find proof the £666.50 had gone into his account.
Efe’s Kebab Kitchen manager acknowledged and apologised for the error.
