Concerned former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has warned Fashion Sakala he risks receiving a "slap in the face" from Celtic in the Viaplay Cup final
The Zambian forward referred to the holders as "the other mob" ahead of their meeting at Hampden on Sunday, and Ferguson has major concerns that the talk could backfire with Michael Beale's face off against Celtic at the national stadium set to be a pivotal turning point in his tenure. The Londoner is looking to lift his first trophy since stepping into the Ibrox hot seat and halt Ange Postecoglou's men and their momentum at the top of the table - holding a comfortable nine point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
However, Rangers hero and Record Sport columnist reckons Sakala's comments will only have encouraged Celtic and could backfire on the 25-year-old when he takes to the pitch at the national stadium. He insists he would never have made the comment about their rivals so close to a crucial cup final showdown.
He told The Go Radio Football Show: “I always respected, always, that went out the window when you crossed the white line but I think you have got to give respect. If you are not respectful, nine times out of 10 you are going to get a slap in the face, so it’s interesting to see what Sakala has said."
