Fashion Sakala sets sights on Champions League after taking Rangers chance

FASHION SAKALA has set his sights on a Champions League shot at glory against Liverpool after grabbing his chance to shine in the win over St Mirren on Saturday.

The Zambian was utilised on the right side of the Rangers attack and produced an impressive performance in a comfortable 4-0 victory at Ibrox.

Rangers remain two points adrift of Celtic in the Premiership and now turn their attentions back to Group A and their glamour tie with Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Sakala came off the bench in the defeat at Anfield last week but has now staked his claim for a jersey as Giovanni van Bronckhorst bids for a much-needed European result.

Sakala said: “I’m looking hopefully to starting. I always respect the decision of the boss.

“If I start, I will appreciate it. If I’m on the bench, I will appreciate it as well.

“I always look forward to getting my chances. If he gives me the chance to start against Liverpool, I’ll be ready.

“I hope to start. But it’s his decision and I respect that.

“It is very difficult [to put the Champions League to one side and focus on the league title]. We talk in the dressing room.

“We have struggled in the Champions League, the first time back in the Champions League for the club for a long time. We have to switch very quickly.

“The league is very important for us and we know how tough it is. We need to stay focused on the league. The Champions League has been difficult.

“We always say we don’t need to sleep in the league competition because that is the most important for us.”
