Fashion Sakala delivers Rangers 'could do better' verdict as he promises better to come

Rangers striker Fashion Sakala believes he needs to be more consistent to be a bigger success at Ibrox after his first season at the club.

The 25-year-old returned a respectable tally of nine goals in 13 league starts for Rangers since his move last summer from Oostende.

Sakala is preparing to play African Cup of Nations qualifiers for Zambia against Ivory Coast and Comoros in the coming days.

And although he was satisfied with his first season at the club, he has pledged to show more consistency next term.

He said: "I think in my first season, it has been good, but I could have done better. The only way to make it better next season is to keep on working extra hard.

"Personally, I think I can be more consistent and that can only come through hard work.

"I think I'm going in the right direction at Rangers and I just need to be patient and work extra hard.

"It was disappointing to lose in the Europa League Final, but at the same time, we can be proud we got all the way to the final.

"It wasn't easy to get there because we had to play some big teams in Europe, but we made it to the final and I think we should be proud of ourselves.

"Obviously, it would have been better had we won it, but I am very proud of my team.

"We won the Scottish Cup a few days later which was an amazing way to finish the season."

And Sakala was hugely impressed with the backing he got from Rangers fans during the campaign.

He said: "I appreciated the confidence I got from the Rangers fans. They've supported me throughout.

"Sometimes you can win games just by the noise of the fans. In Scotland, there were plenty of games we won against big teams just because of the atmosphere created by the supporters."
