Fashion Sakala and Rangers should start balloon business as there's so much hot air coming out of Ibrox - Hotline

It's not really the fashion to rile your rivals just days before facing them in a national cup final.

But if Rangers star Fashion Sakala really believes that his side are “so much better” than Celtic on and off the park then who are we to stop the lightning quick forward lighting the blue touch paper ahead of the Viaplay Cup Final? Sakala claimed Rangers would have won the title last season if Steven Gerrard had remained in charge.

He also said they wanted to hurt Celtic and “make them angry”. Fair to say he’s achieved the second part. Whether it was a wise move or not we will find out on Sunday. Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Only at Rangers can players and supporters claim they have a better club and a better team. Fashion Sakala obviously doesn’t understand a league table where we are nine points clear and have a better goal difference of plus 26 - this is not exactly close. As for a better club no one has told him they went into administration not so long ago. Should be a good close final with plenty goals and I believe if Celtic play to their best they will win.”

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “Rangers should start a new business - blowing up balloons. They would make a fortune with the amount of hot air coming out of Ibrox. First Beale the Speil then Baskin Raskin now Sakala the legend. Calmac probably has more medals than them all put together. I can see a Djouf moment coming.”

Arrin Geddes, Irvine, added: “Good idea to stick Sakala in front of a microphone! One modest profit of £5.9m and two trophies in 10 years but Rangers are bigger and better than ‘the other mob’.”

Paul McCormack, Coatbrdge, said: “So Einstein Sakala reckons Gerrard would have won the league, to add another trophy to the one out of 9 he won. Going by that genius thinking I would have won the Lotto the other night .. if I had bought a ticket.”

Onto the game itself and Robert Livingston, Palm Beach, said: “Will Beale change his usual format and start with a much needed extra goal scorer? I've no doubt Rangers will score goals but so can Celtic. What little I've seen of Raskin he does look a player who can control a game with his accurate passing and pinpoint cross balls, he could be the man to give Gers their first silverware of the season. That said it should be a spectacle with fast, attacking football and both sides going all out for it.”

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, joked: “I’m not surprised Celtic are practicing penalties ahead of their cup final with Rangers. The Ibrox side already have enough experience in this department with the amount of spot kicks refs give them.”

But Danny McLean emailed: “Yesterday’s Hotline had Seamus Gallagher, Helen McLean and Bud Hay all concentrating on Rangers getting a penalty on Sunday and wanting investigations into this subject. Paranoia? No more proof needed.”

Meanwhile, Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: “Sunday is a big chance for two major officials in the game who have been accused by fans of several clubs on the Hotline of being biased in Rangers favour for years, to prove people wrong and show VAR can be a positive for our game. Celtic fans don’t want any favours just a level playing field which we havn‘t had in the league this year. We can’t afford a farce in this one.”

Football lost one of it’s biggest broadcasting characters this week when the legendary commentator John Motson passed away at the age of 77.

And Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “My heartfelt condolences go out to John Motson's family and friends. The man was the voice of football and as a mark of respect I believe all grounds should have a minute's applause. Rest in peace John.”
