Dame Mary Quant has sadly passed away.
The fashion designer has died aged 93, her family has announced.
A statement from her family to the PA news agency said she “died peacefully at home in Surrey, UK this morning”.
It continued: “Dame Mary, aged 93, was one of the most internationally recognised Fashion Designers of the 20th Century and an outstanding innovator of the Swinging Sixties.”
Mary was one of the most influential figures in 1960s fashion and is credited with making miniskirts mainstream, and bringing fashion to the masses, writes The Mirror.
In 1955, she set up her first store, Bazaar, on the King’s Road in London’s Chelsea and has been an icon in the industry ever since.
Just last year, Mary was appointed member of the Order of the Companions of Honour in the New Year Honours list.
The special honour is granted to those who have made a major contribution to the arts, science, medicine or government with Sir David Attenborough and Dame Judi Dench among those who have received this honour.
