An angry farmer has posted pictures of a lamb injured in a dog attack in an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). Huw Williams is calling for "idiot dog owners" to be more responsible while out in the countryside.
He is also a ward councillor for Moel Famau in Denbighshire and is planning to put forward a motion to make it compulsory for dogs to be kept on a lead at all times while walking on the popular Welsh hill.
After praising the on-site wardens for their efforts in protecting the livestock on the upland, he said that a "small minority is spoiling it for everybody" by ignoring the signs and letting their dogs loose on the hill.
Cllr Williams told NorthWalesLive: "A lamb was savaged by a dog on Moel Famau on Friday. It's something that happens on a regular basis and it's because irresponsible dog owners let their dogs off their leads.
"The lamb belongs to another farmer and I'm not sure if it survived or not, but it was badly injured. The owner was nowhere to be seen.
"The AONB is trying as hard as it can to encourage people to be responsible with their dogs. There are signs everywhere and the wardens are constantly telling people to put their dogs on leads but a small minority of idiots are spoiling it for everybody.
"This land is vast and when lambs get separated from their mothers they often don't survive, even if they haven't been injured by the dog. It's not the dog's fault at all and owners need to realise that they're putting them at risk by not having them on a lead.
"I was sheering the other day and some of the sheep were full of ticks from the long grass. These can be fatal for dogs so it's equally as important for the dogs themselves to be on a lead in these areas.
"I'm going to be putting a motion to the council to try to make it compulsory for dogs to be kept on a lead on Moel Famau at all times so we have fewer of these kinds of instances."
