A popular Nottinghamshire farm shop has relocated to a new town after 12 years in business. Trinity Farm Shop has opened at Phoenix Mills in Long Eaton after the lease on its store in Awsworth came to an end - and so far it has been 'well received' by residents.
The farm shop, which focuses on selling ‘organic, sustainable and environmentally-friendly products’, opened on March 10, and owner Daniel Winter says that so far things have been really ‘positive’ in the relocation.
The 32-year-old said: “We moved here because our lease came to an end at our previous location and we had outgrown the space so we had decided to move. We chose Long Eaton because we do home delivery and we cover a 20-mile area.

“The Long Eaton, Stapleford, Beeston area has the highest concentration of customers out of all of the deliveries we do. We had a look online and there are a lot of environmentally friendly-focused groups, organic food groups etcetera in this area. And so we thought with so many people in this area obviously interested in the sort of products that we do and what focus we have. We decided this would be a good location to move to."
Daniel continued: “It was busy, there were loads of people. We’ve been really well received by locals, they all seem really excited to have us here. One thing with the previous location, because it was on a farm in the middle of nowhere, the problem was we never had passing trade - you had to find us online basically. Here, this main road, everybody is seeing us and the ‘Spotted Long Eaton’ on Facebook seems to be a lot more active than the other area that we were in.
“It’s been really really positive, this has been our third day opening and we’ve seen loads and loads of new faces, not just the regulars. There are not many places that do the sort of products we do. There are three within about 20 miles here that I know of and I’ve been doing this for 12 years, there can’t be many places I don’t know of. We get customers that drive from Birmingham, Chesterfield, we deliver as far as Ashbourne, Newark, Chesterfield and Loughborough.
The farm shop sells everything from zero-waste toiletries to organic fresh produce. The store has a deli-counter and sells a range of vegan products and meat products. The 32-year-old added that the produce is the most popular among its customers.
Daniel continued: “We have one of the largest ranges of organic fresh produce in the country. It’s always been our focus. We source it from a variety of different growers, not just the UK but across the world, for things like lemons, pineapples that don’t grow in this country. If you want to keep a full supply all year round, you have to reach out to farmers in Spain.
“Sustainability and being environmentally friendly is the core focus of the organic movement and it goes hand in hand, when you’re using chemicals to farm, you damage the land quite a bit. It’s the same with body washes and soaps that have a large amount of chemicals that go into the water."
Daniel added that these chemicals can have a ‘knock-on effect’ and can harm the Amphibians in the rivers and canals. He continued: “It just has knock-on effects in that way, we’re just big believers that there is a better way of doing this. That's part of why we sell these environmentally-friendly products, alongside the food we do - it goes hand in hand.”
Customers can find a deli counter with a variety of goods that change daily.
Daniel said: “So we change it day to day throughout the week. Today we have cinnamon buns, scones, cookies and croissants. Other days we have egg custards, brownies, cheese straws, we kind of like to try and spice things up, make it interesting. So it’s not always the same when people come.
“Obviously we’re not the size of a supermarket but we try and encourage customers to use us that way. We try to stock a full range from pastas, flours, rice, cooking sauces and oils. We also have a large vegan range as well as a large meat range. There are very few products we don't make.”
The farm shop is open from Tuesday to Friday 9.30am to 6pm and on Saturday 9.30am to 4pm.
