Far-right commentator who said ICE deserved ‘legal immunity’ detained by agents

  • Far-right political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at a New Orleans airport on Thursday.
  • The 41-year-old British national legally entered the United States in May 2019 but overstayed his visa, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
  • An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for his immigration hearing, leaving him in ICE custody pending deportation.
  • His arrest occurred roughly a day before his former boss, Kanye West, was scheduled to perform at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
  • Yiannopoulos, who has a long history of posting racist, sexist, and transphobic rhetoric online, had previously voiced strong public support for ICE and mass deportations.
