Fantasy Football: Potential bargains, must-plays from Giants-Packers game

The New York Giants (4-8) host the Green Bay Packers (6-6) at MetLife Stadium this coming Monday night in a key matchup that had NFC playoff seeding ramifications.

Both teams are on winning streaks — the Packers have won three straight and the Giants had a two-game streak before their bye last week.

The change in fortunes for both teams has piqued the interest of fantasy enthusiasts. Here are three possible plays for Monday night’s game.

Giants defense

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

The Giants have been upping their game on the defensive side of the ball the past three games, forcing 11 turnovers, including a pick-six. In their last two games, they have recorded six sacks and averaged a league-high 17.5 FPS per game while allowing just 13 points per game.

With defensive coordinator Wink Martindale’s future uncertain due to his strained relationship with head coach Brian Daboll, expect the defense to come to play again this week.

Saquon Barkley

The Giants will continue to lean on Saquon Barkley as much as they can the rest of the way. He was relatively quiet in the Giants’ 10-7 but he exploded the week before that against Washington for 30 FPS.

Green Bay has allowed an average of 160.7 yards on the ground over their past four games and are 25th in the NFL when it comes to allowing fantasy points to running backs, so Barkley is a go this week in all formats.

Packers wide receivers

Some low-hanging fruit here but not as simple as it looks. The Giants have allowed the fifth-most FPS to wideouts this year and Packers have a very talented group of young targets for quarterback Jordan Love to choose from.

Romeo Doubs has been targeted the most followed by Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, and Dontayvion Wicks.

Doubs, Watson, and Reed are all averaging a tad over 11 FPS per game. Watson is the most dangerous due to his size and red zone prowess but he’s nursing a hamstring injury and may not suit up.

That would leave Doubs and Reed and both become attractive plays against a Giants secondary that has seen its share of lapses this season.
