Fantasy Football: 5 best waiver wire targets for Week 4

We’re now three games into the 2023 NFL season, which is enough time to gauge flukes and trends among rising fantasy football prospects.

Whether you’re 3-0 or 0-3 in your fantasy football league, every manager loves to find talent on the waiver wire each week.

The biggest waiver wire storyline of the week is Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane, who gashed the Denver Broncos for 233 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns on Sunday. Achane obviously won’t put up those kinds of numbers every week, but he is a must-add on the waiver wire after that massive performance.

To help fantasy football managers attempt to improve their rosters going into Week 4, we’ve put together a quick list of the five best waiver wire targets with options at running back, wide receiver, quarterback and tight end.

Each player’s rostered percentage in ESPN fantasy football leagues is listed in parentheses. Ready? Let’s get to the list!

1
RB De’Von Achane (17%)

Jeff Wilson is set to return soon, but even if the Dolphins turn to a three-RB rotation, Achane will have flex value going forward. Wilson and Raheem Mostert have both struggled with injuries in the past, and Achane looked like the team’s best RB on Sunday. He is the top waiver wire target of the week.

2
RB Kendre Miller (21%)

Alvin Kamara is set to return from suspension this week, but after Jamaal Williams went on injured reserve, Miller is set to serve as the Saints’ No. 2 running back for at least the next four weeks. Miller will likely get snaps in a two-RB rotation going forward.

3
WR Tank Dell (24%)

(Melina Myers-USA TODAY Sports)

Dell has 17 targets over the last two weeks, hauling in 12 receptions for 217 receiving yards and two touchdowns in that period. He could be a big sleeper at wide receiver for the rest of the season.

4
TE Sam LaPorta (64%)

(Detroit Free Press, USA TODAY Network)

This will be the final week that LaPorta is included on this list because he is already rostered in a majority of leagues, but he should be owned in every league. The rookie tight end already has 18 receptions for 186 yards and one score through three games.

5
QB Jameis Winston (1%)

(Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports)

Fantasy managers should not forget that Winston threw 33 touchdown passes the last time he was a full-time starter in 2019. With Derek Carr (throwing shoulder) week-to-week going forward, Winston is a serviceable fill-in option if you’re looking for a quarterback.
