There’s nothing more valuable in fantasy baseball than versatility.
If a guy can play in the outfield, middle infield and tackle either first or third base on a rare day, it’s impossible to pass up that potential. As we get further into the season, these types of super utility guys don’t stay available for long on the waiver wires.
This week we’ll dive into a few key pick-ups you should target as some hot starts to the year begin looking more and more sustainable.
We’ve also got two starting pitching options worth adding immediately. Here are five waiver adds to target right now.

Eduardo Rodriguez, SP, Detroit Tigers
Available in 59 percent of Yahoo leagues and 82 percent of ESPN leagues
If he wasn’t on your radar before Sunday’s brilliant outing, he sure should be now.
The Tigers starter finished off his third straight quality start by tossing seven scoreless innings against the Baltimore Orioles with six strikeouts. That lowered his ERA to 2.32 with a 0.84 WHIP.
E-Rod has allowed just one run in his last 21 innings pitched.
Connor Joe, 1B/OF/DH, Pittsburgh Pirates
Available in 77 percent of Yahoo leagues and 88 percent of ESPN leagues
The Pittsburgh (!!) Pirates (!!!) have the second-most wins (!!!!!!) in baseball right now.
Ok, it’s only late April, but still, we can be excited about this. And we can definitely capitalize on it by adding the versatile Connor Joe off waivers.
Joe is slashing .357/.455/.643 in 18 games with eight RBI and has scored 10 runs in his last nine games.
Brandon Marsh, OF, Philadelphia Phillies
Available in 37 percent of Yahoo leagues and 68 percent of ESPN leagues
Yahoo leagues have picked up on Marsh’s hot start this year. ESPN managers should do the same before they regret it.
He’s reached base in 19 consecutive games with 24 hits and 11 walks propping up a slash line of .364/.455/.758.
Taylor Walls, INF, Tampa Bay Rays
Available in 50 percent of Yahoo leagues and 74 percent of ESPN leagues
You already saw he plays for a Rays team that may never lose again, so that should be enough. If you need more convincing, look at his 333/.440/.667 slash line with three home runs and two stolen bases.
Mason Miller, SP, Oakland A's
Available in 65 percent of Yahoo leagues and 90 percent of ESPN leagues
We warned you last week he was coming up soon and, wow, did he deliver.
Against a surprisingly strong Cubs team, Miller tossed 4.1 innings in his MLB debut with five strikeouts and two runs allowed. There’s no question his stuff plays at this level.
