A Greek Deli in a busy Nottingham suburb has opened in a bid to bring a bit of the Mediterranean to the city. Selling a range of products from wine, snacks, healthy foods and other everyday essentials, the deli also has plans in the future to introduce a cafe.
Mythos Greek Deli is based at the Hartley Business Centre in Haydn Road, Sherwood. Partners Dr Anastasia Viktoria Lazaridi and Konstantinos Ongkaris opened the store on January 18 and have said the reviews so far have been nothing but positive.
Residents are also happy to welcome a new edition and “something different” to Sherwood. Dr Lazaridi, who is originally from Greece, said the shop has been in the works since August. She said: “We have cakes, beers, wines, ready meals, croissants. Many people from the business centre want something quick and they can get that here.

“We want to create somewhere where you get a positive experience for people and their families.” In the deli you can find biscuits for £1.85, freezer foods for as little as £6.99, 1 litre of olive oil for £8.99 and more.
The new shop owners have imported everything themselves and Dr Lazaridi, who is a registered dietitian, is keen to promote all the healthy goods on the shelves for people to buy.
Dr Lazaridi continued: “We want to also create a cafe where people can come in, sit down and chat, we’re the only Greek Deli in the East Midlands area and it’s bringing Mediterranean food to Sherwood. This is our first shop and customers are happy to see something different.”
Despite this being the couple's first shop they have sold products online on Bakalikon, the online supermarket. Dr Lazaridi continued: “We’ve had product requests too which we’re planning to bring in, we’ll always listen to people.”
People in Sherwood are also happy to see a new shop open its doors. Josie Lobbs, 30 lives in Sherwood. The waitress said: “It’s something different for the area and I see that they sell snacks which might go down well with kids after they’ve finished school. I think they’ll be something in there that will appeal to anyone and it’s that they’ve chosen Sherwood.”
The Nottingham Free School and Bees Bargain Beds and Furniture are close by to the new deli. Hayley Martin, 35 who lives in Sherwood, said: “We’ve been waiting for this to open, we’ve seen it being set up, I don’t live far, it’s fantastic here.”
The full-time mum added: “They sell pretty much everything in here and the owners seem friendly, today is my first day popping in.”
Valerie Dennis, 65, lives in New Basford. Now retired, she said: “It’ll be handy for those who live near to pop in as and when. The only thing that I could imagine that might not go down well is the parking. Despite that, I hope that the deli does well.
“I shall definitely be paying a visit.”
