Katy Perry is lined up as one of the top acts at the concert to celebrate the coronation of King Charles next month. She will no doubt be dipping into her catalogue of sure-fire hits like Firework and Roar - but fans want to her to sing something in particular.
Perry has been appearing in adverts for food ordering app Just Eat, singing the company's jingle 'Did somebody say Just Eat?' while dressed as a giant ice cream, as well as eating pizza with a giant chunk of cheese perched on top of her head. The promotion's popularity means people have called for the star to give the tune an airing to honour the new monarch.
Writer Jason Reid @JasonReidUK said on Twitter: "How am I just finding out that Katy Perry is to perform at the coronation? I hope she sings her Just Eat song."
Broadcaster Kerrie Cosh @KerrieCosh tweeted: "If the most searched thing on Google about Katy Perry isn’t “is Katy Perry going to sing the Just Eat song at the coronation?” Then I am afraid we are beyond saving as a nation."
My Name Is James @_JamesGtfo posted: "It actually makes sense that Katy Perry is performing at the King’s Coronation because her Just Eat advert and song has had more cultural impact than the entire royal family combined."
And writer Louis Staples @LouisStaples tweeted: "Katy Perry should sing the Just Eat song at the coronation."
Just Eat says its jingle "celebrates the excitement and anticipation that’s universally felt when the idea of ordering food is suggested" and has been used more than 70 million times on TikTok. A petition has even called for the tune to be available on streaming platforms.
Last month Snoop Dogg, who fronted the original Just Eat advert, played his rendition during a gig at London’s O2 arena. Victoria Gold, Just Eat's UK and Ireland marketing director, said: "We’re so delighted that fans love ‘Did Somebody Say’ as much as we do; it’s a no brainer to want to sing along to a joyous banger as the nation celebrates the coronation."
Take That and Lionel Richie are also on the bill for the concert on May 7 in the grounds of Windsor Castle. The event will be broadcast live on the BBC, which has strict rules around advertising in the UK where it is funded by the TV licence.
