Fans gutted as RTE's Eco Eye cancelled after over two decades

A well-known RTE show has been cancelled after over two decades on television.

Eco Eye on RTE One is set to end tonight after running for 21 years on screens across Ireland. The show, which is produced by Earth Horizon Productions, has highlighted environmental and sustainability issues in Ireland.

The show was presented by Duncan Stewart and in recent years Mr Stewart hosted the show alongside ecologist Anja Murray, clinical psychologist Dr Clare Kambamettu, and immunologist Dr Lara Dungan. The episodes explored a number of environmental issues like climate change, circular economy, biodiversity, and more.

Eco Eye will be replaced by a new series which will be announced later in the year. Mr Stewart was described as "a guiding light on climate and sustainability for the past 21 years" by RTE's director of content, Jim Jennings.

He said the show played an important role in bringing issues into the public domain. He added: "[Mr Stewart] has been a tireless advocate and educator on climate and sustainability issues and we are extremely grateful to him for sharing his expert knowledge and enthusiasm with our audiences for the past 21 years.

"We look forward to building on this legacy as we continue to expand our climate coverage working with Earth Horizon and other production companies on a wide range of forthcoming series.."

The final episode of the Eco Eye will air on RTE One tonight.
