Fans can watch Hibs vs St Johnstone VAR debut despite TV giving it the cold shoulder

Supporters across Scotland will be able to experience the debut of VAR on the box with Hibs making their game with St Johnstone available on pay per view.

Easter Road is set to host a bumper crowd as punters in Leith will witness the introduction of video replay in Scotland for the first time. Followers of Hibs and St Johnstone have a vested interest in the result, however, football fanatics across the land also had their interest levels piqued as VAR rolls into town. The game kicks off at 7.30pm and is among a host of Premiership clashes which have kick-off times tweaked to maximise fan engagement.

Hibs are making the game available at a price of £10 - with the fixture and the added drama being beamed across the globe. Veteran whistler Willie Collum has been confirmed as the video assistant referee for the fixture as Scottish football gets set for a brave new era. SFA chief Ian Maxwell has warned to expect a "horrendous" few months while the technology is in its infancy but Collum believes VAR will prove a game-changer both on and off the pitch.

He said: "My honest opinion is this is about benefiting us in Scotland. It’s to avoid the controversy here. That’s the biggest thing - to ensure we aren’t the headline any more."
