Fans believe Roy Keane was right with infamous rant after Man United crash out of Europe

Fans believe Roy Keane's infamous rant about David De Gea may have been proved right after the Manchester United goalkeeper was at fault for arguably two of Sevilla's goals in their 3-0 defeat on Thursday night.

Erik ten Hag's team were eliminated from the Europa League following a 5-2 aggregate defeat to the Spanish side at the quarter-final stage.

A clip has emerged on social media from 2020 when Keane branded De Gea 'overrated.'

Currently, De Gea has 14 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, one more ahead of second placed Nick Pope.

However, the 32-year-old has been suspect in aspects of his game, resulting in Man United's capitulation on a number of occasions.

Keane was adamant that the goalkeeper isn't as good as what he's made out to be, saying at the time: "I am sick to death of this goalkeeper. I would be fighting him at half time. I would be swinging punches at this guy. This is a standard save for an established international goalkeeper."

A number of fans highlighted the clip on social media after Thursday's game.

One wrote: "Roy Keane was right about De Gea from day one. Roy is almost always right with everything he says. 9/10 of everything that comes out his mouth is spot on. De Gea needs to be our backup keeper or he gotta go."

Another said: "This is not the first big game or game De Gea has made huge errors. Yes, he is a world-class shot stopper, but his kicking is awful & he has countless mistakes in him. Roy Keane will tell you that. It is time for him to move on."

Someone else tweeted: "Roy Keane was right. De gea is overrated."

Man United go to Wembley on Sunday afternoon to play against Brighton in the FA Cup semi final as they chase their second trophy of the season.
