Racing fans were amused as the Leopardstown commentator went silent before calling home another winning favourite.
As the fourth race on Sunday's card at the Dublin Racing Festival was reaching its conclusion, Jerry Hannon paused momentarily.
The blip came just as favourite Birchdale was creeping into contention up the inside of the track.
Well-fancied Blackbow, trained by Willie Mullins who had won the previous two races, was ahead of outsiders Winter Escape and Foxy Jacks.
The leaders, tracked by Rebel Gold and the eventual scorer Birchdale (9-2f) ridden by Mark McDonagh, rounded the bend when Hannon took an unexpected break.
"It's Blackbow in front, with closing right up Winter Escape, then Rebel Gold and Foxy Jacks,." Hannon said.
"On the inside is Birchdale..." before he paused for several seconds.
Fortunately Hannon found his voice again to call Birchdale the winner of the Bulmers Secret Orchard Leopardstown Handicap Chase.
Four horses were in contention at the final fence, but McDonagh's mount responded best to give the jockey his first success over fences in the €125,000 race.
Birchdale was the fourth successive favourite to prevail after Party Central (7-4f), Galopin Des Champs (4-9f) and Chacun Pour Soi (4-7f).
"He (Birchdale) always had the ability and I just think he has matured as well," said trainer Enda Bolger.
"I'm not taking much credit for it but I thought he got a great ride from young Mark."
Punters took to social media to joke about Hannon's momentary lapse in the commentary box.
"Pigeon flew into Jerry Hannon's mouth... only explanation surely!" one wrote.
Another asked: "Jerry Hannon fallen over or has he swallowed a fly. Birchdale. BIRRRCHDALE."
And a light-hearted tweet from Betfair Racing read: "Commentator Jerry Hannon might be in need of a wind op."
Hannon was back in top form to call Honeysuckle home in front of her Chanelle Pharma Irish Champion Hurdle opposition.
She joined greats Hurricane Fly and Istabraq as a three-time winner of the race – and was another triumphant favourite for punters.
Honeysuckle's winning distance, with Rachael Blackmore in the saddle, was six-and-a-half lengths.
