One exceptionally talented Elden Ring fan re-created its CGI announcement trailer to look like a PS1 game, and the results are glorious.
Many people attribute their love of FromSoftware’s games to the old-school difficulty approach. Boss fights are usually pretty challenging, and game overs typically result in being thrown back to a level’s opening — much like PS1 games often did.
Hoolopee, a 3D visual effects artist and YouTuber, brought things full circle by reimaging Elden Ring’s E3 2018 CGI trailer as a classic PlayStation title. All the jaggy textures and warping backgrounds one would expect from a late 1990s console RPG, very reminiscent of FromSoftware’s own King’s field series. Watch the whole thing for yourself below.
