How do you know if it’s a messy break-up? If one party donates the other party’s clothes to a Goodwill afterward.
Former Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith’s school-issued gear was spotted by a fan at a Goodwill store at an undisclosed location earlier this week. And it wasn’t just one or two crewnecks or quarter-zips—it looked like his whole wardrobe.
A TikTok user recently posted a video of himself rummaging through an entire section of Beavers-branded apparel at a Goodwill. Many articles of clothing had Smith’s full name or initials printed on the tag, leaving no little doubt as to whose closet the clothes came from.

After leading the Beavers to an 8-4 record this past season, Smith accepted a job at Michigan State in late November. The 2022 Pac-12 Coach of the Year was 34-35 over the span of six seasons with his alma mater; Smith had played quarterback for Oregon State from 1998 to 2001 and was the Fiesta Bowl MVP in his senior year.
Despite righting the ship at Oregon State, Smith may have ticked off some Beavers fans with his move to the Big Ten. His trove of team-issued gear at a Goodwill ultimately poses more questions than answers: Did Smith himself drop off the last mementos of his Beavers’ stint? Or were the clothes perhaps part of Oregon State's lost-and-found bin, and it’s the Beavers who want to rid their football program of any and all items related to Smith?
At the very least, Smith’s trash turned into one person’s amusing TikTok content.
