Famous cast spotted in Edinburgh for filming of Amazon miniseries Anansi Boys

Amazon film crews return to a busy Edinburgh street on Thursday morning to continue filming their brand new star studded TV series in the capital.

Anansi Boys is a six part drama series adapted from the novel by Neil Gaiman. The plot follows the story of the spider-god Anansi’s two sons.

Filming for the fantasy series is now well underway as crews descended in March to start the filming process. Since then more famous faces have been announced to star in the series and have been appearing in the streets of Edinburgh.

Production of the show has taken years of planning as an original miniseries was meant to be filmed in 2014 in a partnership with Starz.

As commuters and members of the public try to catch a glimpse of the star studded cast, crews are littered around the area to keep the shots clear.

Some famous faces have been seen on set include Whoopi Goldberg, Malachi Kirby, Delroy Lindo, Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn and Lourdes Faberes.

Lindo stars as Anansi in the show and features in all six episodes. A famous actor in his own right he has appeared in many critically acclaimed films including Heist, Get Shorty and Malcolm X.

Kirby is also an important mention in the series as he plays one of Anansi’s sons, Charlie.

He has previously starred in Black Mirror and the popular film I am Kunta, based on the story of Kunta Kinte, an African sold to slavery in America.

The street was also packed with extras waiting to be directed to walk down the street on their phones or chatting, showing the effort that is taken to get a perfect shot for Amazon.

Several shots were taken of the same scenes on Canning Street where they have been filming for weeks between the back street of Shandwick place and Haymarket.

Camera equipment, crews, hair and makeup teams and runners were part of the production along with someone standing in the middle of the road to direct cars out of shot.

Although crews have been filming in Edinburgh for weeks the series will actually be set in London.

Similar fantasy series have also been filmed in Edinburgh. Good Omens featuring David Tennent and Michael Sheen was filmed in the capital which must be the perfect location for a fantasy adaption.
