A dad has spoken of his joy at winning a luxurious flat for his family in a £2 raffle after struggling to secure a mortgage.
Electrician George, who is originally from Romania, secured the two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment worth £300,000 in Grays, Essex, after purchasing multiple tickets for the prize draw.
The 31-year-old dad-of-one bagged the jackpot after entering a competition run by Tramway Path, which promises the winner the homes mortgage-free.
The win came as a huge shock to George, who had spent the past 11 years renting.
He was rejected from his mortgage application the day he purchased the raffle tickets.
He initially bought 200 £2 tickets, however after failing to secure a mortgage for a new family home – with wife Violeta and their son Adam –the electrician raised his bets and purchased another 200 tickets to increase his chances.
“I honestly can’t believe it, I never win anything,” George, who has just moved into the home, said.
“This has changed my life forever.
“We’ve been renting for 11 years and now me and my family can finally have a place of our own."
Out of the thousands of eager applicants, George secured the swanky new build that comes complete with modern decor.
The flat boasts a stylish interior kitted out with modern appliances.
With a giant flat screen fitted to the wall, George can now sit back and relax after work in a cosy place his family can finally call their own.
The pad boasts a spacious balcony that offers spectacular views of the area.
Fit with a large bathtub, walk-in shower, double bed and closet space, George and his family will save thousands on new furniture as well as living mortgage free.
Daniel Twenefour and his brothers Jason and Will are the masterminds behind company Tramway Path, and have given away eight properties to date.
The trio began the raffle scheme in 2020 and have helped dreams come through ever since.
"The properties we give away are funded by the ‘raffle’ tickets," Daniel said.
“For example, if a property is worth £300,000 and each ticket is £3, we need to sell 100,000 tickets to fund the property.
"We also need to sell tickets to cover our costs of running a competition.
"Initially, I set up to sell my own property during the pandemic as I had already moved house but was paying two mortgages.
"After the first competition I was inundated with messages and emails from people asking me to do it again as it will help people get on the property ladder.”
Tramway Path has recently launched a new raffle offering a four-bedroom home in Medway, Kent, which closes on 5 November.
