Amazing steps family take to welcome Ukrainian mum and kids into their Merseyside home

A mum-of-four who welcomed a family of Ukrainian refugees into her home two weeks ago has described it as a “whirlwind” experience.

Nicole Ross opened her home in Prenton to mum Mila and her children Nazar, 12, and Tonya, 9, who fled their home in Kyiv. She was horrified when she saw the war in Ukraine break out on the news and, when the government launched the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme, she realised she could do something tangible and immediate to help.

Nicole, who is originally from Seattle, has three children living at home and realised Mila’s family were of similar ages. She contacted Mila on Facebook and, after around a month of administrative delays, the family finally arrived at Liverpool airport on April 23.

Baby-faced murder suspect David Ungi finally caught in Spain after seven year manhunt

The manhunt to find David Ungi is finally over as the baby-faced murder suspect was caught and arrested in Malaga.

Ungi, now 30, was arrested in Coin, Malaga on Thursday evening as he entered a gym at a shopping centre. Spanish authorities, the National Crime Agency, Merseyside Police and the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit all worked together to detain the murder suspect.

Dad caught speeding twice launches one man war over 13,000 speeding tickets

A man has started a one-man legal fight to get 13,000 fines overturned after he was caught speeding twice in one day.

Anthony Martindale has started a legal fight to get his speeding tickets overturned because he said he was caught on a Sunday when the roadworks he passed were unmanned. He also wants all 13,000 fines issued to drivers speeding on that stretch of road overturned.

Mr Martindale, 63, was caught twice in the same day on a stretch of road where the speed limit had been reduced from 70mph to 40mph because of roadworks. He was caught travelling at 46mph on his way out and 50mph on his return.
