Family's tribute to young dad who died after making a "simple mistake" whilst riding his motorbike in wet weather

The family of a young dad who died after crashing his motorbike he had bought the day before have paid a heartfelt tribute to him.

Car salesman Shane Raymond Williams, 24, died in the horror smash in South Yorkshire in February last year.

Mr Williams, the father of a two-year-old girl when he died, was said to be trying for a baby with his partner.

He had a "a heart of gold", and is "missed every day" by his family and friends, his heartbroken father said.

The "inexperienced motorcyclist" made a "simple mistake" whilst riding the newly purchased bike in wet weather, a coroner has now concluded reports Yorkshire Live.

He left the carriageway whilst riding on Long Road in the village of Thurcroft near Rotherham, and collided with shrubbery on the country road after losing control of the vehicle. He suffered a fractured skull as a result of the crash, which proved fatal.

An investigation by South Yorkshire Police confirmed neither drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident, and tests found there were no issues with the road environment or the motorbike that contributed to Mr Williams' death.

The "natural salesman" from Rotherham, who was well known for purchasing and selling cars, had bought the motorbike on February 3, the day before the crash, the inquest at Doncaster Coroners Court on Tuesday heard.

He then rode it home safely, despite poor weather conditions.

But the next day, when the ground was "wet" but "safe enough", he lost control, according to a witness.

Forensic Collision Investigators believe he may have been affected by "undulations" in the road which can have a "destabilising effect."

The court also heard that Mr Williams, who was not known to have driven motorbikes before, "should have undergone additional training" and a "separate test" before driving the 600cc motorbike.

Tragically, he died after making what the coroner termed "a simple mistake" during his ride.

Mr Williams leaves behind his parents, his three siblings, his partner, and his daughter, now three.

Speaking after the hearing, his family said they were most proud of Shane for being a good father and for the "progression" he made after attempting to take his own life in 2018.

"He'd just got back into a good space." his mum added.

"Him and his partner were trying for a baby."
