A grieving family has hit out at council bosses after they refused to fix a water grid that led their gran's tragic death. Liz Taylor, 68, passed away 18 months after she tripped over a raised water grid on the pavement while she and her husband were on their daily walk during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Now, the retired teacher's family say the council is refusing to adjust the grid's height to stop others from being injured, Manchester Evening News report s. They reached out to the local authority at the time of her fall, but were told that the height didn't meet 'investigatory levels' set out in highways safety policies.
The grid remains at the same height to this day. According to the family, the council stated that the water main stop cover is just two millimetres short of qualifying to be adjusted in accordance with inspection regulations.
