Family-run Scottish café named one of the best in the world

A family-run Glasgow cafe has been named one of the best in the world.

Partenope in Shawlands made it on a list of the greatest eateries in La Liste's World Pastry Awards 2024.

The cafe opened in the southside area in 2021 and serves a range of fresh sandwiches, pizza bread, focaccia and more.

Opened by Sara Capaldi and her partner Toni de Carlo, who was born in Italy, the food is described as "classic Italian food but also good old British baking".

Sara previously told the Glasgow Times: “It’s a wee bit of a family affair. There’s a lot of recipes from my grandmother and then most of the bread and pizza come from Toni’s grandparents.

"We make everything from scratch here and both myself and Toni are really committed to prioritising quality over quantity. We don’t ever want to get greedy and lose that, even when the shop is busy."

Also making the list of best bakeries and cafes was Cottonrake on Great Western Road.

This recognition comes just months after Cottonrake finished 13th on the list of top artisan bakeries in the UK by British Baker.

Two.Eight.Seven. in Govanhill, Outlier 38 on London Road and kaf coffee in Partick were also featured in the list.
