A family-run diner launched in memory of a beloved grandmother say they feel they are “on the right road” after finding out they are in the running to be hailed the best family venue in Scotland.
Nanny Marys, on Ayr’s Smith Street, have been selected as finalists in two categories for the Scottish Entertainment Awards: ‘Best Burger in Scotland’ and ‘Best Family Venue’.
The popular eaterie - which bagged best ‘New Food Business of the Year’ at the Prestige Awards in October 2022 - was set up in honour of the family’s late Nanny Mary, who always had something sweet on the table.
Granddaughter Allana Harte said the news was ‘emotional’ as Nanny Marys was set up for customers to enjoy hearty homemade dishes in a family-friendly setting.
Allana said: “As most of you know, our family business was built by family for families after we lost our beautiful Mammy and Nanny Mary.
“The family wanted to remember her and bring other families together and support our community wherever we can and we have been involved in so much.
“For us to be in the running for Best Family Venue and Best Burger in the whole of Scotland has completely taken us by surprise and made us a tad emotional.
“We had amazing memories growing up with Nanny, especially when it came to sitting down for a good homemade meal together and that’s something we really wanted other families to have.
Allana said it was "heart-warming" to learn that customers voted for Nanny Marys in the two categories out of so many businesses across the country.
She added: “It has really given us confidence in the food we are producing and the message we are creating.
“We always wanted our amazing customers to have a great venue that they can take their families to and now we feel like we are really on the right road.
“We want to thank everyone who has taken the time to vote for us in the awards, those who support us, root for us, visit us and as always… #ForNanny.”
The diner and dessert parlour - which serves up stacked burgers, loaded fries, milkshakes and waffles, panckes and crepes - is also a finalist in the food category at The Scotland StartUp Awards, with the winner being announced next week on April 27 at SWG3 in Glasgow.
