The family of Khia Whitehead insist they will 'never give up' on the teenager after a serving police officer 'destroyed his life'. PC Sarah De Meulemeester was only authorised to be a 'basic driver' at Greater Manchester Police, meaning she had to stick to speed limits.
But the officer drove at more than twice the limit through Stockport on a wet Boxing Day in 2020, as she was one of three cars responding to a 'grade one emergency', Liverpool Crown Court heard. The 26-year-old overtook a car and drove on the wrong side of a traffic island on Garners Lane, Adswood, when she hit then-15-year-old Khia.
De Meulemeester, of Mill Court, Chinley, Derbyshire, was found guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a trial. Today (May 19), she was locked up for 30 months and banned from driving for two years.
