INDORE: Seven districts of Madhya Pradesh have failed to achieve even half of their targeted annual sterilisation in ten months of the current financial year, showed a review report from the health department.
The family welfare daily report of February 10 discussed in a review meeting recently showed that districts including Bhind, Morena, Shajapur, Tikamgarh, Mandsaur, Neemuch and Harda had achieved less than 50% of their annual sterilisation target till then.
The report further showed that Bhind district with only 39% achievement against its 9724 annual sterilisation targets remained worst performing.
The other districts like Gwalior, Shajapur, Tikamgarh, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Harda achieved 41%, 42%, 43%,43%, 46%, and 48% respectively of their annual sterilisation target to remain in worst performing list in state.
Deputy director, NHM-MP Dr Rajeev Srivastava told TOI, “There are different reasons for districts for such poor performance. The only common reason is non-availability of surgeons in these districts, COVID-19 impact, disinterest of community in it.”
In the state, there are 10 districts, where surgeons aren’t available in district hospitals to carry out regular sterilisation at facilities. Most of these seven districts are in the list of seven worst performing districts, said Dr Srivastava.
“In these seven districts, the surgeons from other districts go for holding weekly camps in accordance with schedule”, said Dr Srivastava.
“The COVID-19 induced lockdown in the second and third wave also impacted family planning like other health programme”, said Dr Srivastava.
“The disinterest of the community to opt for sterilisation proved a major hurdle in many areas. In the case of Bhind, the district programme manager failed to take appropriate measures on time”, added Dr Srivastava.
The report further suggested that Madhya Pradesh achieved 79% of their 3.60 lakh sterilisation target till February 10 in current fiscal.
