The family of a woman killed in a horror crash on the A9 in Falkirk last year say they are "furious" road improvement works have been delayed once again.
The 77-year-old woman lost her life in an accident at Beancross junction at Polmont in September 2021.
A petition was later started and signed by thousands of locals calling for urgent improvement works to make the busy road safer and to save lives.
Falkirk Council stated that construction on a new road layout would take place in early 2022, but it has now been confirmed that will now not happened until later this year.
The woman's granddaughter has accused Dorothy Reid, Roads and Grounds manager at the local authority, of being careless and inconsiderate for not prioritising the works.
Speaking to Falkirk Live, Lucy Higgins, said: "This is another boot in the teeth for us. As a family we were promised this road would be sorted in early 2022.
"Accidents are happening here all too often and it's just tragic that my grandmother has lost her life due to being in an accident on this road.
"We are shocked to hear the works will now not take place until September/October time - that's around a year since my grandmother died.
"I have emailed Falkirk Council and their Head of Roads explaining my anger and upset, but not had a response from anyone.
"We, as a family, want this road sorted as soon as possible to save lives and to have it done in my grandmother's legacy.
"I feel like the council just don't care, how can this be delayed once again. I have seen letters that have been sent to locals promising upgrade and improvement works for the past 14 years.
"14 years is a long time and we are still in the same position.
A Falkirk Council spokesperson said: "The planned works will improve traffic flows and contribute to road safety and involves changes to the road layout at Cadgers Brae interchange (M9 Junction 5) and the A9 at its junction with Grandsable Road.
"Phase 1 of the works will comprise the installation of a permanent traffic signal system on Cadgers Brae roundabout with localised widening of the carriageway at various locations.
"The works will also include new pedestrian/cycle facilities, carriageway resurfacing and associated road lighting, traffic signs and road markings.
"A contract for Phase 1 (Cadgers Brae) has recently been awarded and these works will start later in March.
"The improvements to the A9/Grandsable Road junction will be undertaken as Phase 2 under a separate construction contract which is expected to start later in 2022."
