Family of teen suffering from life-threatening cancer in Dublin accommodation plea

The family of a teenager suffering from life-threatening cancer has issued a public plea to find accommodation in Dublin as their son undergoes vital treatment in the city.

Rocco McGinley, 14, from Buncrana in Co Donegal, has previously been diagnosed with a rare, life-threatening brain tumour after the teen experienced a loss of power and blurred vision last year.

In an effort to help their son, Rocco's family started a national campaign to get their son treatment for the brain tumour in the United States.

After undergoing surgery in Texas, the early signs were looking positive, but his condition has recently taken a turn for the worst.

The family, including his parents and siblings, have now made a public appeal to find accommodation in Dublin so he can receive critical radium treatment at St Luke’s Hospital.

Speaking to MyDerry, Rocco's family said they required something that was wheelchair accessible and preferably had a wet room to cater for Rocco's needs.

Writing on Facebook, Rocco's Road to Recovery page said: "Some of you may have heard that Rocco's condition has taken a turn recently.

"His tumour has increased in size and he has had a tough few weeks with him having had Covid and deteriorating physical health."

They continued: "Rocco will require radium therapy in Dublin starting Monday, We are calling out for some help! We are wondering if anyone has any links with somebody who might have a home/air BnB etc in the Dublin area for renting for two weeks that would be able to facilitate Rocco's family, including his four younger siblings.

"We would require something that would be wheelchair accessible due to Rocco's current needs."
