A leaked video showing the body of a woman murdered in Egypt at the morgue has shocked the nation, causing her family to take legal action.
Naira Ashraf was murdered by her classmate as she stepped off a bus outside Mansoura University, where they both attended in Northern Egypt.
A brutal video of Ashraf's dead body at the morgue shows deep wounds all over her body and Ashraf's family is taking legal action against the Mansoura General Hospital, which has been holding her corpse.
The family is demanding an immediate investigation to identify the people or person behind the video, the report from a local news site says.
Mohamed Adel confessed to stabbing Ashraf and to slitting her throat after she had continually rejected him.
The 21-year-old murderer was given a death sentence and the court appealed to Egyptian MPs in the country's parliament to air live the execution, in hope that it will put people off committing a similar crime.
In its letter, the court wrote: "The broadcast, even if only part of the start of proceedings, could achieve the goal of deterrence, which was not achieved by broadcasting the sentencing itself."
Witnesses say the killer was seen repeatedly punching the victim in the head, jumping on her and he also stabbed her repeatedly.
Claiming she would send thugs if he didn't stop sending her marriage proposals, Adel said: "I had an exam and I missed the bus. So I had to take the next one, which moves at 10.30 am.
"When I got on the bus, she was there. I carried a knife because I feared she would fulfil her threats of sending me thugs. I also wanted to kill her, if I had the chance."
A controversial talk show host and women's rights advocate Khaled Montaser slammed the act on Twitter, describing the leak as being "traitorous".
He wrote: "How was the video of the corpse of the murdered student, Naira Ashraf, leaked from inside the mortuary??!!! Is it meanness, humility and humility that has reached this point??!"
The crime has triggered widespread anger in Egypt and another case also made headlines in Egypt when the body of TV presenter Shaimaa Gamal had been found, nearly three weeks after her husband had reported her missing.
