Family of four cabin crew members and pilot make their maiden voyage together

A pilot has flown a "once in a lifetime flight" with his wife and three daughters as cabin crew.

Captain Ingvar Mar Jónsson flew from their home country of Iceland to Washington D.C with family onboard.

The group were then able to enjoy a twenty-four hour stopover to see the sights.

Joining them was the Captain's mother-in-law, as well as two of the daughter's boyfriends

Captain Jónsson, 49, explains: "It was a once in a lifetime experience for us, the flight itself was conducted in a professional manner and family ties did not get in the way.

"It was wonderful to spend time with the family during the 24 hour layover in Washington DC."

The flight took off from Keflavik on 20 August and returned the next day, landing in Keflavik on the morning of the 22nd.

The flying family included Captain Jónsson's wife Sigga Nanna, 50, daughters Sigga Marta, 20, Ingibjorg Ingvarsdottir, 23, and Nina Bjorg, 29, as well as mother-in-law Ingibjorg Marteinsdottir, 69, and boyfriends Thorir, 20, and Petur, 25.

The journey took 5 hours and 40 minutes to Washington and the flight back to Iceland took 5 hours and 10 minutes.

Captain Jónsson says: "It is very satisfying to witness our children grow up and become independent and hard working people.

"My wife Sigga Nanna and I first met in 1997 when we were on duty on an Icelandair flight. It was love at first flight.

"Since our two younger daughters, Ingibjorg and Sigga Marta, started working for the summer as flight attendants, Sigga Nanna and our oldest daughter Nina thought it might be a good Idea to bid for a flight together from Keflavik Iceland to Washington DC.

"Ingvar, Sigga Nanna and Nina got the flight, but Ingibjorg and Sigga Marta managed to swap flights so we could all be a part of one crew on August 20th.

"Along with us we took my mother in law Ingibjorg. Also Petur, our daughter Ingibjorg's boyfriend, and Thorir, Sigga Marta's boyfriend.

"Atli, who is Nina's husband stayed in Iceland to look after their two small children.

"Our son Nonni, who is 17, also stayed in Iceland to look after our two dogs.

"My wife Sigga Nanna comes from a big aviation family. Her Grandfather Snorri and her father Jon Karl are retired captains for Icelandair.

"Her brother Snorri is currently a captain and his wife Erla is a flight attendant. Sigga's sister Thorhildur is also a flight attendant.

"All of them worked for, or are working for the airline Icelandair, which was founded in the year 1937.

"Nina our oldest is working full time as a flight attendant, Ingibjorg is getting her masters degree in law and Sigga Marta is getting her Bachelor's degree in educational studies."
