A tragic incident occurred in upstate New York as a family of five from Georgia lost their lives in a small plane crash. The victims, identified as two children aged 10 and 12, along with three adults, were returning from a baseball tournament in Cooperstown when the accident took place near Lake Cecil Road in the town of Masonville.
According to New York State Police, the family members were on their way back to Georgia after the tournament. The plane had departed from Alfred S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta, NY, with a planned stop in West Virginia for refueling before heading to Cobb County International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia.
Cooperstown, known for being the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, was the last stop for the family before the tragic crash occurred. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed his condolences and urged the public to keep the Beggs and VanEpps families in their thoughts and prayers.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are currently investigating the crash involving a single-engine Piper PA-46 aircraft. All passengers on board the plane, including the family of five, lost their lives in the accident.
Authorities are seeking witness reports to aid in the investigation, with a multi-agency search effort conducted using drones, ATVs, and helicopters to locate the debris and the downed aircraft. The New York State Police, along with other agencies, are working diligently to determine the cause of the tragic crash.
