Family of Glasgow motorbike fan need fellow bikers to follow his funeral procession

The family of a Glasgow pensioner who passed away last month are asking the biker community of Glasgow to ride alongside him one last time for his funeral procession.

Alistair McPherson passed away peacefully at home on June 14 at the age of 81. His grandson Jordan Carroll has taken the appeal to social media and created a Facebook event.

A trike motorbike has been arranged to transport Alistair's from ColtPark Avenue to Lambhill crematorium on Wednesday June 29.

Jordan said: "My grandad was truly an inspiration to us all and it hurts us so much that he isn’t with us anymore.

"My grandad had a bad crash a few years back, which led him to having to get rid of his bikes. There was a diesel spill on a roundabout and my grandad came off his bike and slid right into somebody’s garden."

The crash ultimately led to Alistair being unable to ride his beloved motorbikes, but his fondness for the bikes as well as the biker community remained.

Alistair was a source of inspiration for grandson Jordan, who speaks fondly of his work ethic and states 'how getting him to go back into the house was a mission in itself'.

Jordan added: "He was cared for at home by his daughter and myself until I had to start back at uni where I am studying adult nursing, which requires me to do placements so I couldn't commit as much time.

"We decided to hire carers in the latter few months, who he adored and they adored him.

"He passed away at home on the 14th of June as this was always his wishes and he was surrounded by myself, his daughter Nicole and his beloved wife Avril."

Alistair rode motorbikes from a young age until his 70s when he physically couldn't ride any longer, but always maintained a close relationship with the biker community.
