Family in turmoil as dad goes missing during son's graduation

Update: Sunday July 10. Michael has been found and returned to his family.

The family of a man who went missing during his son's graduation are appealing for help.

Michael McConville, 73, attended his son Justin's graduation at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on Friday (July 8). His daughter-in-law Caroline Laird told the ECHO that he was last with the family around Hope Street at around midday.

However, he told his family he could not walk any more and would meet them back at their accommodation - an AirBNB on Acorn Court. When the family returned from the graduation to the AirBNB, he was not there.

Michael was last seen in the clothes in which he was pictured - a dark grey suit with a lighter grey jumper, with a white shirt and red tie. The photo was taken about an hour before he went missing.

Caroline said that this was out of character for Michael and they are getting increasingly worried about him. He has a number of health issues, some of which relate to his heart, and Caroline fears that he has gone without his required pills since he has been missing.

The family, from Lurgan, County Armagh in Northern Ireland, have spoken to Merseyside Police, who are working with venues in the area to see if they can spot Michael on CCTV. The family urge anyone who has any information regarding Michael's whereabouts to get in touch with the police or to ring them on 02838316871.

She said: "We're getting increasingly worried about him. We, as a family, need him home."
