Almost a year has passed since kind-hearted and generous Brits held out a hand to help Ukrainians desperate to find refuge after fleeing their country as Russian troops crossed the border into their homeland in a full-scale military invasion.
Among them were Lisa Raynes and her partner, who instantly signed up to a scheme to help shelter a fleeing family, offering their spare bedrooms to them. Within weeks, two refugees were safely settled in their home, with two more to follow.
Angelika Zonzova and her husband Valerii moved up to Greater Manchester from London while their sons, Dorian, 17 and Camuil, 15, temporarily found refuge in the Czech Republic before their visas were approved and they eventually moved in too. The family, along with Lisa, her husband and their three children, were all living together in the five-bedroom semi in Gatley.
