A stunned family spotted an eerie painting resembling their son 'as a small girl' during a stay at a secluded B&B. Mum Jennie Stevenson said they noticed the artwork with a striking likeness to Barney, seven, while getting ready for dinner.
She said they made the unusual discovery while on their way home from their first ski trip in Sweden, where they moved two years ago. They stopped at the quiet property for the night, arriving at dusk.
Jennie posted on Twitter: "Just arrived at our secluded rural B&B to find a painting of our youngest child depicted as a small girl. There's absolutely no terrifying precedent for this, so it's probably fine."
She recalled: "My daughter just went, 'Mum, there's a picture of Barney on the wall". The painting, 'Flowers in the Meadow' by Swedish artist Carl Larsson, depicts a little girl who looks uncannily similar to Barney except for her long hair, the Mirror reports.
Jennie saw the funny side, later joking that the family had "survived the night" after their spooky discovery. She said: "Did wake at on point to hear an unusual papery sound, as though someone was flipping the pages of a book."
After the post went viral, Jennie added on Twitter: "Barney was planning on becoming a doctor who was so good at medicine he could rid the world of all disease and/or an engineer, but says that now he is already famous, there's no need to bother."
Several social media users gave their own theories about the painting. One suggested that the child was trying to escape the painting. A second, Rooneroo, asked: "Any witches nearby?" But Jennie replied: "In Sweden, Easter is when all the witches fly to the Blue Mountain, so I'm going to assume yes?"
