Family fears for missing Airdrie grandad with heart condition who left vital medicine at home

The family of an Airdrie grandad who suffers from a heart condition have issued an emotional appeal to bring him home.

Martin Simpson's family have shared their unbearable angst after the missing 54-year-old set off for work on Monday morning but didn't show up.

The painter and decorator left his belongings - including his phone, wallet and keys - at his Oakbank Street home, his daughter Donna Cole, 34, told Glasgow Live.

He was last seen by Donna's mum after the couple, who have lived on the street 'all their lives', went to bed on Sunday night (March 5).

When she woke up on Monday morning she discovered her husband wasn't there and assumed he had gone to work. But it was a phone call from his employer saying he didn't turn up that sparked fears for the family.

In a direct appeal to her dad, a concerned Donna said: "We just want you to come home. Everybody loves you and is worried.

"We just want to know you are safe so if you could get in touch with someone to let us know you are fine, that’s all we want."

Donna and her sister have rung friends and family to see if anyone has heard anything from the doting grandad-of-two but nobody has.

Donna said: "He has a heart condition as well, he had a heart attack aged 29. We are worried about that and the weather is horrible outside too.

"It’s been gut-wrenching and a terrible time for us as a family.

"He is a family man who works and comes home and spends time with us and his grandkids. It’s not something he has ever done before. It is so out of character for him.

"You can’t just vanish from your own home. Somebody must know something or might have seen him. It’s just awful."

Police Scotland have launched a search to trace Martin and are believed to currently be carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

He was wearing a black body warmer with MS Decor printed on it, grey joggers and white and silver Adidas trainers.

Donna added: "It worries me because he’s not got his medication and we don’t know how long he can go without having it before it becomes a problem.

"We are going out looking and searching for him but we don’t know if we’re even looking in the right area because we have no idea where he’s gone. It’s totally unusual.

"I’ve got the kids who are a distraction and I’ve got to try and not let them know there’s something wrong."

Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 2263 of 06/03/23.
