A family who have lived in the same house for a decade have been given just months’ notice to leave their home after receiving a Section 21 (no fault eviction) notice. Kathryn and Michael Wakeham have lived at the property for a decade and run two charities, including a food bank, in the area.
However, the couple, along with two of their children and both of their dogs, could be faced with a possession order for refusing to vacate their property due to there being no suitable homes available for them. The soaring price of rental properties and increased demand on the property market mean they fear being forced to leave the area.
The Wakehams were first issued the eviction notice in February, as the landlord had decided to sell the property. The couple from Rumney, Cardiff, were originally given six months’ notice to leave their home under coronavirus legislation which meant the landlord had to give the tenants six-months notice.
