Family drove six hours before realising they had bought 'fake' Liverpool FC tickets

A family travelled across the country to see Liverpool play before realising they had been scammed.

Last year Gemma Kelly bought tickets for her son, Leo to fulfill his dream of watching his heroes play at Anfield. She bought the tickets on a Facebook page for Leo and her partner Scott.

On the day of the match the tickets still not had been sent to Gemma, but as they live in Bournemouth, Scott decided to go ahead and make the long drive up to Liverpool.

Gemma told the ECHO: "They decided to go as if the tickets came in and were still at home they would have missed the game. He is just a massive Liverpool fan and it was his lifelong dream to watch them play at home.

"I thought I was making all of his dreams come true and I told him about it on his birthday which is Christmas Eve so he had all this time to get excited about it. I had even booked them at a Premier Inn so they did not have to drive home until the next day."

Gemma had paid for her son to see Liverpool take on Nottingham Forest last weekend (April 22). Her partner and Leo even got to the Anfield car park before deciding to turn around. Leo spent the night in the Premier Inn as he was too upset to make the journey back down south.

Gemma, 42, said: "It just turned out to be one big nightmare, and Leo was just devastated and so upset, it was all he ever wanted. So they stayed for nothing.

"I thought I was doing a good thing but I wasn't, everything just seemed so legitimate and the Facebook page had thousands of comments and photographs from people who had bought tickets from him. I just felt so devastated for my son, he travelled all that way because he thought he was going to see Liverpool play and all he saw was the outside of the stadium."

Gemma said she received a refund for the tickets today after contacting the seller every day since the match last week. The mum also warned against buying tickets through Facebook and said that she would not want anyone else to go through the same experience.
