The family of a young dad have been left "devastated" after he fell asleep and never woke up, with no obvious explanation for his death.
Will Jones, 26, was discovered in the bedroom of his home in Wirral, Merseyside, at around 10pm on Thursday, June 9.
Paramedics tried to save the dad-of-one before he was pronounced dead at 10.26pm, with the cause of death still unknown, Liverpool Echo reports.
Family friend, Paula Harwood, 44, told how Will had been discovered wearing all of his clothes and appearing like he'd drifted off to sleep.
She said: “He was literally sitting on the bed in all of his clothes and he looked like he’d just fallen asleep, there was just no knowing.
"He didn’t have any known underlying health conditions. It’s just so sad.”
Will who lived with his mum Sharon Lee, has left behind a two-year-old daughter.
Paula, work colleague and friend of Sharon, said: “Sharon is absolutely devastated. It could have been any one of us with children so it really cuts you to the bone that this has happened.
“Sharon is amazing, she’s a real firecracker with an absolute heart of gold.
"She’s worked for William Hill for more than 16 years and is much loved by everyone here.
"Everybody is just devastated and nobody has a bad word to say about Will.”
Now, the friends and family have already raised £3,000 to give Will a "special" send off after launching an appeal to cover the cost of his funeral.
Paula said: "Initially, we set out to get £2,000. I thought that the most we’d get would be a few hundred but it’s really taken off.
"We’re also going to hold a race night to raise some funds.
"Lots of local businesses have donated prizes for it, so it’s great to see the community all pulling together. I’m beyond pleased with that.”
The heartbreaking news has impacted the whole community - but Paula added that Sharon is "completely overwhelmed at the kindness of family, friends and complete strangers."
