Families shocked as 'body found' in Nottingham street

A Nottingham street was cordoned off after a resident claimed they 'found a body'.

While police are yet to confirm the discovery, families in Radford have spoke of their shock after a cordon was put up near their homes.

Officers taped-off part of Denman Street West, with local residents saying it was in place from Saturday (February 12) morning.

One resident said to Nottinghamshire Live they had 'found a body' and reported it to police.

Now families living in Radford have said the area is usually quiet.

Karolina Szatka, 37, of Gatling Street, said: "Normally nothing like that happens around here. I’ve lived here for 10 years and haven’t heard anything before.

"I went for a walk with my dog this morning and saw it was there. Our neighbours are usually friendly too."

Mohammad Ameen, who lives locally, said: "That’s the first time I’ve seen something like that around here.

"It's a good area. I was going to the shops when I first saw it earlier this morning."

A 31-year-old woman on Gatling Street, who did not wish to be named, said: "It’s alright around here normally, I’ve not long come back from work and saw the cordon in place.

"There’s usually the odd bit of drama but nothing too bad. I’ve been around here for years and there hasn’t been problems, but then I do keep myself to myself."

A 46-year-old resident on Rifle Street said: "I went out this morning and there were loads of police, there were about 7 or 8 cars.

"They taped off from my gate to the other side of the road. I’ve lived here for 24 years and it’s not that bad here."

A retired resident on Citadel Street, who did not wish to be named, said: "It’s quite a quiet area, normally it’s okay.

"I’ve been here over 35 years and there’s never been anything like this. There have been incidents in other areas of Radford I’m aware of, but not around here. I’m not sure what’s going on. Our neighbours are all lovely too."

Other residents raised concerns about the area.

A 38-year-old woman living on Citadel Street, who did not wish to be named: "It’s not unusual, we do hear loud voices and fighting and shouting, but you learn to ignore it. I saw the cordon in place this morning."

A resident on Citadel Street said: "It’s surprising when it’s just around the corner from your house, but it’s not really the nicest area."
