A homeowner who was bitten by the UK's most venomous spider while clearing his garden was left itching and in pain for weeks. The False Widow, which looks similar to the deadly Black Widow spider, was discovered in Conwy in Wales in the back yard of Joe Hildebrandt.
Believing the unexpected guest to be a False Widow, he shared pictures on social media. Gloucestershire Live reports that Joe said: "They don’t scare me but this one did. When I saw it on the floor it spooked me a bit as it has been on my arm – and I know they will only bite when provoked."
The bite of a false widow is usually no worse than a wasp sting. However, they have a fearsome reputation and secondary infections are possible, North Wales Live reports.
